My first baby blanket...

For some reason I have never made a baby blanket.
None for my own children, none for gifts... nada
I don't know why... I must have made most things in
my crochet career.

So when I saw this one on Pinterest I
just couldn't resist... and along came a new
nephew for my future Son-In-Law...so off I went....

The pattern comes from a lovely blog called,
"One Little Rayndrop".

It is easy... a huge block of trebles into the back
loop only (called double crochet on the blog because
the writer used American terminology), then a
sweet little border.

I used Debbie Bliss Eco Baby Cotton
in pale cream (shade 14016).  It's a gorgeous
softcotton and splits are rare.

The original pattern specified 4 ply cotton
yarn and a 6mm crochet hook, but I used a
3.50mm hook.  Because of that slight change
I had to make minor adjustments to the border
 to get it balanced.

By the way, the Beautiful Blogger Blanket 2012 arrived safely at

  9. Hi, just dropped in to say many thanks for that lovely swap square - it is deffo one of my favourites - chunky and reddy orange and I love that bobbly petal effect. My son made me stitch it with four others and edge it in black so he can use it for bunny in bed. Nice one!

  13. It's beautiful! My only question is washing it? I'm always afraid of cotton as it shrinks doesn't it? Do you just wash it and dry on the line? A dryer would shrink it right? It is really nice though and you did a great job on it. I'm a new follower from the U.S. and yes we call it a double crochet where you call it a treble...I'm curious...what do you call our treble then? LOL!

    1. Well do you know that cotton like this only 'appears' to shrink? In fact it is just stiffening and tightening. The Debbie Bliss Eco baby washes at 30 degrees and is line dried...which is better for the environment anyway :) I'm going to do a swatch and wash it on boiling then put it in the drier to see what happens... watch out for results! We call your treble a 'double treble'! Ha ha! Hugs, Jill x (off to check out your blog)
