I recently joined Barbara of the lovely blog
Made in K-town in a challenge to make at
least 100 motifs from this book -
Beyond The Square, Crochet Motifs by Edie Eckman.
Finally, last night, I made my first one.
Being the organised person I am ( if any
family are listening, please just keep quiet
at this point and let me have my fantasy)
I began on MOTIF # 1
Here it is being blocked...
I'm not very happy with my picots, but I've never done them before... I'll be better at them by the end of this book! |
1 down, 99 to go.... |
If you would like to see the work of everyone
who is joining in with this challenge, have
Now the gardeners amongst you may want to look away or cover your eyes at this point.
Yes, my garden is shameful.
It used to be nice when my Mum & Dad helped me,
but they are not able to now, hence my garden
is a muddy, weedy patch of very poor land.
The weeds are in charge, Fred the dog
likes digging holes in the lawn, my children hate
going out there and my husband works abroad...
I have finally come to realise, it is down
to ME to make it better.
Here is the plan...
Wish me luck... I'm going out...
I will blog about it again when there is
progress to show you...
What a gorrgeous motif, I think I need that book, I've got a voucher for Warterstones. I'm new at crochet, but could you make them the centre of a square and how would you go about doing that ? I hope you don't mind me asking.
ReplyDeleteI've got to admit I have someone come an hour a week to keep our garden tidy. I love to see a nice garden but we are not gardeners.xxxx
Thanks Deb.. It really is a lovely book...and although the motifs look complicated, they really aren't. To make them in the centre of square you would need to work different sized stitches between the 'high' points.. I'll have a go and let you know if I manage it! I need a gardener! :)x
DeleteThank you,.xxxxx
DeleteBeautiful motif ! Love the colors you choose... for the garden, you just need "huile de coude" oil from the elbow...or a lot of work... and sweat...
ReplyDeleteBig hug
Anna
Isn't that book great, she has another one too called 'Around The Corner, Crochet Borders'. I love it also. It has lots of great information in it. I can't wait to see the blanket all sewn toghether when everyone's squares are in. Mine have been posted. Hope they get there soon. :)
ReplyDeleteThe 'borders' book is on my wishlist Kashi! My postman has never been so popular...I think he thinks I'm stalking him! :)x
DeleteBeautiful first motif! (Lovely pins too). Good luck with the garden, that's a nice space with lots of potential and a great plan.
ReplyDeleteYour picots look perfect to me!
ReplyDeleteThank you! :)x
DeleteOh, that motif looks lovely. Very detailed and I love the turquoise.
ReplyDeleteYour garden plan looks great, I'm ignoring my garden till its a bit warmer!!
Beautiful motif .....(and I wish you luck :-)
ReplyDeleteLove
Marjo
Thanks Marjo :)x
DeleteGreat to see that you've started! :) I love this first motif more and more, it's definitely one of my favorites in the whole book! It looks great with the colors you've picked, and I also like your picots - can't wait to see it in the gallery, don't forget to link it up :)
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful evening and good luck with your garden! (I'm so glad our garden is still my father's kingdom *gg*)
I'll go and link up now Barbara. Make the most of every minute with your Father:)xx
DeleteI don't know when you are going to find time to fit everything in. The motifs by themselves (and all the CALs you have joined) are going to take up a massive amount of your time. And the garden is going to be a lot of hard work, but I bet it will look fabulous when you have finished. BTW your garden looks much better than mine. I'm just doing all I can to pull a few weeds every so often, and they have virtually taken over.

As my Mum says, "Slowly, slowly catchy monkey"! I think that means the same as my favourite saying... "You can only eat an elephant a bowlful at a time"... :)x
DeleteI like your motif challenge, I must get that book, I've wanted it for a while, your first one looks good and I agree the picots look just fine.
ReplyDeleteI could beat you on the garden front, I can't stand looking out from the kitchen window as it really is dreadful......oh well it will happen when the weather looks a little rosier and I have some time....hhhmmmmm.....when will that be?!
I'm all ready for the garden Faith.. I have new wellies.. that's all I need isn't it? :)x
DeleteAhhhing, now that's where I've obviously gone wrong....I have bog-standard green farm wells, but maybe I need me some of those nice pink joules ones I always admire n magazines!
DeleteYour motif is very pretty. I got that book for Christmas and I am so tempted to join you in the challenge but I just don't know what I would do with them afterwards. I will go and have a look at the blog you linked to, maybe somebody has come up with some good ideas.
ReplyDeleteMy squares for the BBB should be on the way next week. Have a lovely weekend.
I have a plan Hilly... it involves either a very large photo frame.. or maybe lots in a row.. :)x
DeleteLove the motif and that book keeps popping up everywhere, maybe I should buy it. LOL . I think your picots look fine, whats wrong with them? As for the garden, weeds are far better than useless grass. Many are actually good for you. You should see MY garden. LOL The weeds coexist with the vegies and herbs. Having said that, I love the plan. It looks great and raised garden beds are really the go these days. Much better drainage and easier on the back. I have been so tempted to switch over but my garden is huge and I put so much work into it already. Maybe one day. Hugs xoxo
ReplyDeleteThat motif is lovely indeed. I too have this book, and sit for ages looking through it and quite fancy the challenge but wonder what I would do with a bunch of them. Do you have any plans for 100 motifs?
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your garden plans :D
Mo x
The motifs work out quite small Mo... I did one in thread and a 1.25 hook (Uk)..they aren't going to take up much room.. see my answer to Hilly, above :)x
DeleteWell done JIll, your picots are just fine:)
ReplyDeleteThanks Elisabeth! :)x
ReplyDeleteI love your first motif. As far as I am concerned, it is PERFECT! Love the colors.
ReplyDeleteIt is such a happy coincidence that we are sharing two challenges for 2012: Beyond the Square and Pretty Crafty Home.
So until next time...
Greetings.
Ana BC
Thanks Ana.. Both challenges are so lovely too :)x
Deleteoh boy I'm facing into a garden just like that, always have the best intentions but tend to spend my garden time crocheting in the shade :D
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend Karen xxxxx
I'm glad I'm not the only one with a daunting garden Karen.. crochet is Soo much more enjoyable isn't it! Hope you had a good weekend too :)x
